7th May

We had the misfortune to lose Bardsey Chalice just after foaling leaving behind her young daughter which we are hand rearing.

So many people have been so kind and 20 foster mares were offered but as she was not a "sucker" but preferred to drink out of a bucket and she remained at home.  Whether this was a wise decision remains to be seen.  She is full sister to the stallion Eastlands Terry; Eastlands Camelia; Eastlands Fawnscars; E. Lymiecleuch, Tally ho Tony, and Black Beauty.

We would like to thank everyone for their help and good wishes and will keep you up to date on her progress.

One thing we did learn was when you are presented with an orphan foal so many things need to be gathered together.  A very useful tip was to keep the dead mare's udder warm (hot water bottles did the job) and she let her colostrum down and fed her foal for the first 12 hours, which we think probably saved her life.

Alice (racing nme E. Snowdrop[) had a colt by Lockinge Frederick on 2nd May

The news on Margaret is much the same, but foaling has begun in earnest.

APRIL

Was an absolutely dreadful month.

Margaret who comes and helps us sometimes when we go showing and looks after the farm, was taken into hospital for operations to try and  stop a bleed on her brain, in Edinburgh.  She has now been transferred to Dumfries which is more handy for visiting, but is still very poorly and the outcome uncertain.  It will be a long haul.

Primrose had a filly foal by Hookey Golden Latke - probably one of his last foals

April Showers, but surely not of snow.!!!  Much snow during the week 7th to 13th April.

GOWLA Topper, bred by Thomas Keaney, Gowla, Cashel, Co.Galway.  He was thought too immature to enter for the colt inspections this year and we have just got him in from the hill for some discipline!

The is by Monaghanstown Pat out of Misty Glen, who was second at Clifden some 10 years or so ago

MARCH

The February saying was right!

 What about March?

In like a lion out like a lamb.

Snow started again on 3rd March and has continued through the month so far.

The colt inspections in our area were held on 26th March 2008.  We took our first colt for 18 years to an inspection!

Eastlands Ashiebrae - foaled 17th July 2006 - out of our Belle (Bardsey Trinket) was her first stallion son with her husband Fred.

We were delighted that he passed as Class 1 - 91% (274)

FEBRUARY

Winter will not have lost it's bite,

If Candlemas Day shall be rain

Winter will not be seen again".
